Eucharist

The Eucharist is the sacrament in which we receive Jesus Christ’s body and blood at Holy Mass. This Sacrament completes Christian initiation. In the Eucharist we receive the body and blood of Jesus Christ to strengthen our baptismal communion with Him. This encounter serves as the source and summit of the Christian life. In order to receive Jesus in the Eucharist, we are expected to be free from all mortal sin and to have abstained from food and drink (except for water and medicine) for an hour before. Receiving the Eucharist at least once a year is one of the precepts (expectations) of the church, but we are encouraged to receive it as often as possible.
