Holy Orders

Holy Orders is the Sacrament where a man is consecrated in Christ’s name to continue the apostolic ministry. The three degrees of Holy Orders are episcopate (bishop), presbyterate (priest), and diaconate (deacon). Anyone who has been ordained into one of these groups was ordained by a bishop who can trace their line of ordination all the way back to the 12 apostles of Jesus. The unbroken line of ordination from the first apostles to our current deacons, priests, and bishops is called apostolic succession.
